Happy Hour: Blizzard Tonic

February 8, 2013

Happy Friday! Are you all ready for the blizzard? It's been coming down here for a while and my office closed early which was a welcomed surprise. Unexpected half day, woo! We stopped at the store for some essentials which included a ton of citrus since it's been looking great for the past couple of weeks. When I was dreaming up happy hour recipes this week, I knew I wanted to incorporate some of the bright, tangy flavors from the fruit.

To make the Blizzard Tonic:

3 parts gin
2 parts lemon simple syrup*
1 part freshly squeezed lime juice
1 part freshly squeezed orange juice
Top with tonic water

Pour the gin, simple syrup, orange and lime into a shaker half full of ice. Shake well and pour into an ice filled glass. Top with tonic water. Stir gently and garnish with a lime and orange slice.

If you are getting hit with this crazy storm, what are you doing to keep busy? Will you be enjoying a special cocktail while you're trapped inside? Stay safe and warm! Cheers!
