THE GREAT (SHAMPOO) DEBATE

THE GREAT (SHAMPOO) DEBATE

I have heard this debate again and again so it is always a surprise to me when someone is completely shocked over the whole no shampoo thing. Mostly I get mixed responses, either complete disgust or intrigue masking semi-disgust. So I’m putting it all out there today and I really want to know. Do you shampoo?

THE GREAT (SHAMPOO) DEBATE

About 3 years ago, one of my closest friends came to me and told me she was going to give up washing her hair. Her hair was dry and unhealthy and she thought her shampoo wasn’t doing her any good so she planned to see how long she could go without it. While I was intrigued, I knew it wasn’t something I could ever do because I had to wash my hair every single morning in order to not look like I could wring the grease out of my hair. Ok, that’s a slight exageration but my day 2 hair was nothing impressive. I felt like I had to wear a hat or headband or somehow strategically put it up to hide the grease.
After some convincing I decided to give it a go and held out for about 3 days with no shampoo. It was gross. I caved and washed. I decided to try again about a month later after I graduated because I had some time where people couldn’t see me in that scary in between phase (which I was told could last about 2 weeks). This time wasn’t as bad at all. After about 5 days, my hair looked flat but pretty normal.
I’ve never looked back. I never gave up shampoo completely but I drastically reduced my frequency of use. I now use shampoo once a week to 10 days and get so many more compliments on my hair than I ever did before. It is so much healthier and softer than the days I had to shampoo/brush/blow dry/style every.single.morning. Not to mention I have so much more time (and use so much less product) than before.
To all of my friends who think, “I can’t do that! I will be so greasy!” Please see above. I was once like you! I even prefer day 2,3, and 4 now. So I really want to know… do you shampoo? Have you ever given it up? If not, would you?
